Chris Rock has strayed away from addressing his very public assault on social media as well as the press. However, the comedian has sought the perfect time to talk about it during his comedy special.
Thus far, Selective Outrage is the first comedy special to be broadcasted live on Netflix. The event has been one of the most anticipated events of the year as fans were eager to know the star’s perspective of the ordeal.
Will Chris Rock rekindle a friendship?
While we know that Will Smith has publicly apologized to Chris Rock via a clip posted on his social media platforms, we learned that Rock was yet to reach out to Smith to talk about Oscar’s night.
Recently, Chris Rock seemed pretty ready to talk about the way he was publicly humiliated in front of millions of people all around the world, however, being the good sport that he is, the comedian joked about it instead while conveying some clear feelings about the unfortunate event.
During his comedy special, Chris Rock referenced the actor in multiple parts of his comedy set.
At one point, the comedian spoke of rapper Snoop Dogg who has been promoting all kinds of products. In saying this, Chris Rock mentioned that he loves Snoop and that he is not dissing him. Simultaneously adding that “the last thing [he] wants is another rapper mad”.
Where to from here?
In another reference to the ordeal, Rock shared that whoever said words hurt, has “never been smacked before”. The comedian continued to joke that the actor had given him a concussion, which I will now unpack.
Prior to hosting the Oscars in 2022, Chris Rock previously hosted the award show in 2016. As many may recall, Will Smith was not nominated for his role in Concussion and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith started a movement to boycott the Oscars. The comedian was also prompted to withdraw from hosting the show, which ultimately didn’t happen.
In his opening monologue, Chris addressed the controversy around the 88th Oscars ceremony.
He said, “This is the wildest, craziest Osars to ever host because we got all this controversies – no black nominees you know, and people are like ‘Chris you should boycott’, ‘you should quit’. How come it is only unemployed people that tell you to quit something huh?”
Now, many may assume that the viral 2022 Oscars moment derived from the 2016 Oscars but truly we will never know the full story as Will Smith admitted that he had been dealing with some things at the time.
As for where Chris Rock stands, the comedian closed his show off by saying that he didn’t fight Will Smith back because of the extreme height difference between the two of them. He further added that people commented on the moment saying that the actor was a B***h for picking on someone who is not his size.

Now, his drop the mic moment came as he shared why he didn’t do anything about the smack. In closing the show, Rock noted:
“My parents taught me better than to fight in front of white people.”
From the above statement, it is evident that the comedian and actor may not be close to a reconciliation anytime soon as Chris clearly has strong feelings about the physical attack. However, we’ll hope that the bad blood does not last forever!
