Get ready to be transported into the land of far far away because Shrek 5 is reportedly in the works!
While its been more than a decade since the last Shrek film, fans of the franchise are gearing up for another adventure in the swamp. Although rumors of the film have started back in 2021, Chris Meledandri has confirmed himself that the next installment is in the making. Read what he had to say below.
“We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return,”

When will it be released?
According to Variety, Shrek 5 will potentially be released in 2025. In a sit down with the publication, Chris Meledandri revealed his hopes for the original cast to return for the next film as well as some other prospects for the film.
What we know about the film so far
Even though there isn’t an official trailer for Shrek 5 right now, talks of it has begun. Back in 2021, there have been rumors of the film but buzz around it has increased since an intern at NBCU accidently leaked information on his LinkedIn profile. The post has since been deleted.
If all goes well, the original cast members of the film are set to return for the next installment and how nostalgic would be!
Although the focus is currently on Shrek 5, Meledandri also shared the possibility of a film centered around donkey. Since characters such as Puss in Boots have secured their own films, there’s a great potential for a film on donkey to happen.
