The Russel’s are certainly leaving their mark in society after going head-to-head with the Academy. Here’s the cliff hanger episode 8 left us with.
At the Genesis of season 1, the Russel’s surely ruffled some feathers as they were determined to be of rank in society. Now, viewers are increasingly seeing the lot thrive. That is, Mrs Russel thrive.
Throughout season 2, viewers have seen the drama unfold in the many groups and families but thus far, episode eight surely takes the cake.
The fate of the Metropolitan
In the tumultuous relationship between Mrs Russel and her peers, the mother of two didn’t back down from a challenge from Mrs Astor to have her opening night on the same day as the Academy. However, things quickly take a turn for her when Mrs Astor persuaded the Duke to be present at the Academy instead of the Metropolitan – with the help of promises to connections of course.
While all seemed lost for Mrs Russel when it was found he will no longer attend her opening night, the socialite has turned to drastic measures in order to save her reputation but the question is, just what has she offered the duke that was better than Mrs Astor’s money and connections?
Well, by the looks of it, poor Gladys might be the one paying the price for her mother’s victory.
As you may recall, the Duke previously expressed interest in Gladys. However, Gladys is quite occupied with a potential suitor and is therefore not considering the duke in the slightest. This may pose a threat to her mother who potentially promised her daughter to the duke.
Ms Brooke’s engagement to Dashiell
Although viewers noticed this before, it was inevitable that the relationship between Marian Brook and Dashiell came crashing down.
Throughout their entire relationship, it is clear that her aunt Agnus was the clear instigator of their union and it was therefore a matter of duty that Ms Brook decided to say yes. If we were to say it bluntly, her entire engagement setting was a setup for her to be unable to say no with poor Francis present.
Growing all the more brave, she decided to call off her engagement to Dashel and sweetly explained to Francis why this couldn’t come to be.
On a lighter note, Ms Brook and Mr Russell have now found their way to each other. This is a union we cannot say we never saw coming but it is pleasing nonetheless.
The turnaround for Ms Ada Brook
After tragically losing her newlywed husband to cancer, Ada Brook learns that her humble husband has left her a great fortune. While he has never shared details about his business, the late pastor wrote to Ada explaining that she will be taken care of.
Since Mrs Van Rhijin has come to ruins through her son’s involvement with the non-existent Ms Beaton, she will now live through the comfort of her beloved sister’s money. With that being said, it is inevitable that things will change around the Van Rhijin home.
The unspoken romance between Peggy Scott and Mr Fortune
After enduring a night of terror in South Carolina, Peggy and Mr Fortune regrettably share a kiss in the midst of taking comfort in one another. However, it seems that it was not a kiss after all as Peggy and Mr Fortune continue to exchange glances, not to mention Peggy’s overwhelming feelings for him.
With this, Peggy makes the decision to quit her job as a journalist at the Globe in order to move on from the chemistry between them. It is worth noting that Mr Fortune unspeakably feels the same way, although neither of them plainly put this into words.
As the season draws to a close, there is much to unpack and another episode may not be enough to tie all the loose ends. After all, we still need to know if Ms Beaton will show up in New York again and to see the romance between Ms Brook and Mr Russel unfold.
Even though a third season hasn’t been confirmed yet, the potential for it is pretty high.
